What We Do.
We love supplying Dulwich Hill with good food and good coffee. Our produce-driven menu is fresh, tasty and features locally sourced ingredients. We cater for a variety of tastes, types and moods with our all-day brekky, healthy salads, burgers, vegan dishes and kid friendly options.
Don’t forget to check out our supply shelves, stocked with our house made condiments, marinated olives, coffee, free range eggs, local Dulwich Hill honey and other delicious things you’ll want to take home.
In our retail space we also stock Frank Green’s reusable cups and bottles and a range of homewares and gifts by local designers and makers.

Our Story
Owners Dave Moran and Josh McPhee met when they worked together at an award winning restaurant in the northern beaches. With their years of industry knowledge and skills, the duo had a dream to open a shop together in the inner west. In 2015 The General opened its doors in Dulwich Hill and has been a community favourite ever since.
The General is dedicated to producing carefully thought out food and supplies. as well as high class coffee, headed up by Esther Moran- a member of The General team since 2015.
The General expanded into evenings in 2018 with Bar General. With Bar Generals signature cocktails, dynamic booze selection, and a delicious food menu (the taco’s are a crowd favourite), Bar General has become a Friday night hotspot in the inner west.
You will find Dave and Josh in the kitchen most days prepping and planning menus for Dulwich hill. The General is a family and family-friend run business that boasts an undeniably welcoming and cheery space to dine in.
